As part of Charleston’s FestivALL, the citywide arts festival, actress Jennifer Garner hosted a red carpet gala benefit for the Charleston Light Opera Guild. Garner, who is a former Light Opera Guild performer, introduced the performance of “Thoroughly Modern Millie” at the Civic Center’s Little Theater. Garner says she is thrilled to help out some of her former co-stars and mentors who are still doing theater in the capital city.

“I’m always happy to be back in Charleston,” Garner said, “especially to be here to support the community I grew up in, which is the Charleston Light Opera Guild. It is so important to go out and support your local theater, see your friends in it and go volunteer, because theater is a big part of the community.” Tickets for the show and reception ranged from $120 to $200 dollars. Garner, who is married to actor Ben Affleck, grew up in Charleston.

The actress talks about why it’s “worth the struggle” to juggle a career and motherhood, while still finding time for charity.

Actress, mother and philanthropist Jennifer Garner has teamed up with Frigidaire for the “Save the Children” campaign, which encourages parents to get their kids off the couch and be more active.

Jen believes “it’s so important to just get outside with your kids.” The mother of two girls, Violet, 5, and Seraphina, 2, spends some of her outdoor time with the family by playing baseball. “I alternate between coach and player,” adding — her batting skills are “not so good. I’m a big fan, but not so good.”
