Disney, Jennifer Garner to Bring Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple to the Big Screen
29 March, 2011 · Posted by under Movies · 2 Comments

Jennifer Garner will produce the adaptation, which will not only be contemporary but see the age of amateur detective Marple brought down.

Agatha Christie’s elderly detective Miss Marple is getting the big-screen treatment from Disney.
After months of negotiations, the studio has closed a deal to capture the movie rights to the character, who first appeared in 1927.
Mark Frost has been tapped to pen the screenplay.
Marple was one of Christie’s most famous creations, an elderly woman constantly knitting or weeding, looking sweet and frail though the exterior masks a sharp mind with a deep understanding of the dark side of human nature.
The character first appeared on screen in 1961 in Murder, She Said, portrayed by Margaret Rutherford, who was 70 when she played the character in the first of a series of movies. Angela Landsbury played the character in 1980’s The Mirror Crack’d.
Disney is not making a period movie however but looking do a contemporary version.

Hiring Frost may also signal an intent to make something with an edge. The writer, whose recent credits include penning the Fantastic Four movies, is best known for co-creating the landmark TV series Twin Peaks with David Lynch.

Disney coming to Dougherty
20 March, 2011 · Posted by under Movies · No Comments

Disney is coming to town the first week in April — and I’m not talking about the Albany Civic Center.

They are coming to Third Avenue, and probably a few other places to film a segment of the new Walt Disney Pictures’ “The Odd Life of Timothy Green.”

Lisa Riddle, director of the Albany Convention and Visitors Bureau, confirmed that crews from Disney will be in Albany for about a week to shoot a scene from the movie.

The Disney crew and some of the actors will be in Albany for about a week shooting “on the avenues” and possibly in the Dawson area.
Starring in the movie are Jennifer Garner, Joel Edgerton and CJ Adams. It is unlikely that Garner will be part of the Albany filming, but the company has not announced the specifics of the location work here.

Most of the film is being shot in and around Atlanta and the surrounding counties of Walton, Morgan, Coweta and Cherokee.
Riddle said the Disney crew will have a positive influence on the local economy. They have arranged for approximately 30 hotel rooms for the week and have hired a couple of local companies to assist them.

According to Disney, this is the storyline: “The Odd Life of Timothy Green” is an inspiring magical story about a couple, Cindy and Jim Green (Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton), who can’t wait to start a family but can only dream about what their child would be like. When young Timothy (CJ Adams) shows up on their doorstep one stormy night, Cindy and Jim, and their small town of Stanleyville, discover a whole new view on what it is to love and be loved.”

Moviehole visits the set of Arthur
11 March, 2011 · Posted by under Movies · No Comments

”Arthur”, the 1981 classic which starred Dudley Moore as the alcohol-guzzling, wildly wealthy New York party boy and the bold, brash and loveable Liza Minnelli is being remade for a new generation starring Russell Brand, Helen Mirren, Jennifer Garner, Nick Nolte and Greta Gerwig.

When Arthur’s parents threaten to cut him off from the family fortune if he doesn’t settle down and marry their woman of choice (played by Jennifer Garner), he must decide which is more important; the abundant fortune – all he has ever known, or the real woman (Greta Gerwig) of his dreams.

Moviehole’s Tim Johnson spent a day on-set of the film just outside New York City and spoke to the director and film’s stars between takes. While Brand was a huge fan of the original, surprisingly Helen Mirren says it wasn’t the original film that drew her to this production. (more…)
