One year to go before 40!

Jennifer Garner celebrated her 39th birthday on Sunday with a low-key, outdoor barbecue at the Pacific Palisades, Calif. pad she shares with hubby Ben Affleck and their two girls Violet, 5, and Seraphina, 2.

Before the bash got underway, however, the Arthur actress pampered herself with a spa treatment that morning at the Peninsula Hotel.

By early afternoon, about 30 guests, most of them with kids of their own — including Affleck’s BFF Matt Damon — had arrived at the family’s home bearing gift boxes from Barney’s, Neiman Marcus and elsewhere.

The kid-friendly, catered menu emphasized Southern comfort food staples: grilled corn, mac ‘n cheese and barbecue shrimp.

“There were lots of kids running around and laughter heard all the way from the street,” a source tells Us.

Even with busy film schedules and two daughters underfoot, Garner has said that she and Affleck (they married in 2005) still find time for romance.

“You steal the time. You steal a date, you steal a kiss, you steal a whisper. You sit next to each other on the couch with computers on your laps. After the kids are asleep you…well, you know,” the actress told Parade last year.

Jennifer Garner surprised her Odd Life of Timothy Green co-stars on Saturday (March 19) with a live performance in Atlanta, Georgia.

The cast and crew rocked out to a live lunch break performance by Fiasco, a local southern rock band, when Lin-Manuel Miranda and Common, two of the movie’s stars, joined the band and freestyle rapped!

I have added video from Disney‘s “A Poem Is” where Jen lent her voice to a Mother’s Song, a folk lullaby from the late 1800s that describes maternal love.

We all know how important reading is to Jennifer Garner — she and her adorable daughters (Violet, 5, and Seraphina, 2) are always spotted out and about with books in hand.

So it’s no surprise the Emmy-nominated actress jumped at the chance to narrate Disney‘s “A Poem Is” video series.

Garner lent her voice to a Mother’s Song, a folk lullaby from the late 1800s that describes maternal love, which you and your child can view at disneyjunior.com.

But the mom-of-two isn’t the only celeb parent to participate. Katie Holmes also narrated Mice, a poem by Rose Fyleman.
