Actress Jennifer Garner visited a Breathitt County elementary school Tuesday as part of her support for a charity that encourages better reading habits for children.
Garner, who is married to fellow actor Ben Affleck and played CIA agent Sydney Bristow on the TV show “Alias,” visited LBJ Elementary School on behalf of the organization Save the Children to the school to see reading programs in action.
According to the Breathitt Times-Voice, Garner later went out to homes in Breathitt County not just to visit with children and parents, but also to read to the kids and to speak with their parents about the importance of literacy.
“She was super. She worked wonderfully with the kids,” said LBJ Principal Ron Combs during an interview with the Times-Voice on Wednesday. “She was excited to be here, and she was familiar with the terrain of this area, since she grew up in West Virginia. She understands this region.”
Parts of the visit were filmed by a crew from the Fox television show “American Idol” to be used as during a segment called “Idol Gives Back”, a charitable campaign which helps disadvantaged children in America. Save the Children will be one of the charities that will benefit from the proceeds and the program, which is scheduled to return to Fox on April 21.
