A movie about love dedicated to the day of love. That’s what director Garry Marshall promises in his latest romantic comedy Valentine’s Day.

Produced by Warner Bros Pictures, the film boasts of an amazing ensemble cast including Julia Roberts, Anne Hathaway, Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Alba and Jennifer Garner, to name a few. The film that promises to make the day extra special hits theatres this Friday. Here Garner and Kutcher talk about their film and reveal their own Valentine secrets

Tell us about your characters…
Jennifer Garner: I play Julia Fitzpatrick, a school teacher who’s in love with Valentine’s day and in love with the perfect guy, and I believe that he’s the one for me.
Ashton Kutcher: I played Reed Bennett, a florist. I kind of think florists are messengers, modern day cupids of love. And by passing those messages, he puts himself in a vulnerable position, because on Valentine’s day he’s forced to pass a message to his best friend that is not so good.

What is Valentine’s day like for you?
JG: First of all, it’s a nice day to smile at people and say, ‘Happy Valentine’s day.’ But, it can be a wonderful reset button for a relationship.
AK: When you’re in a relationship for a while, the advantage of Valentine’s day is breaking patterns. It’s a day to put aside regular stuff and really plug into a day, It’s a day about making each other happy.

What’s the best Valentine’s day gift you’ve either given or received?
AK: My wife and I, we got each other a chair. It seems odd, but it’s a fantastic chair, it has a high back. I don’t even know what it’s called, but it’s this really beautiful, elegant chair.
JG: When I was a kid, my first Valentine gave me one of those friendship white-rope bracelets. But then he wore it until it was frayed and grey and fell off and that was the real romance.
AK: Yes, that’s the important message. You can give somebody the simplest thing in the world, but if it means something to them, it can really affect a loving response.

Julia Roberts is eager for her Valentine’s Day co-star Jennifer Garner to regain a few Alias-era curves.

“You are quite slim,” Roberts, 42, joked to Garner at the Beverly Hills press conference for their romantic comedy, in theaters Feb. 12.

“I just finished nursing,” replied Garner, 37 — who welcomed daughter Seraphina in January 2009. “I’ll soon plump up again.”

Quipped Roberts, “We’ll stay tuned for that.”

Garner also poked fun about falling in love with her husband of four years, Ben Affleck. 37.

“Somewhere around the second kid I thought, ‘This is really turning into something!’” she said.

The busy parents (who are also raising Violet, 4) squeeze in romantic moments whenever they can, Garner said.

“You change the definition of romance,” she said. “Romance is romance, but in addition, romance can just be breakfast over the tops of heads and just getting through the day. You’ve got to find a way make that romantic.”

Girl Crush: Jennifer and Jessica

Jennifer Garner and Jessica Biel bonded while filming Valentine’s Day and have been friends ever since. On a rare girls’ night out, the stars dish about the difficulties of (usually) being the only woman on set, the pros and cons of having a famous significant other, and whether or not either of them really “has it all”.

“She’s not that tall, but you can tell she’s strong,” says Jessica Biel, talking about her 55-pound pit bull mix—but she could just as well be talking about herself. Biel and I are discussing our love for our dogs (she sleeps with hers as I do with mine) as we wait for her new best friend, Jennifer Garner, to join us for dinner at Madeo, a legendary Italian restaurant in Beverly Hills where Al Pacino is said to keep a standing reservation. The hostess has seated us in a booth in the farthest corner from the door in an attempt to offer some privacy, but Biel’s beauty can’t go unnoticed. Fresh from a taping of The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien, Biel has her hair perfectly styled, her makeup perfectly applied. There are sequins sparkling on the T-shirt under her open cardigan sweater. And just moments ago, the whole restaurant watched as she gracefully strode toward this back booth. (more…)
