Hollywood actress and activist Jennifer Garner applauded the Obama administration on Capitol Hill for funding “innovative” early learning programs but said that more needs to be done.
“Last week, President Obama, such great news, he delivered on 500 million dollars for innovative early learning programs. I was proud to fight for this funding with Save the Children alongside our allies like the First Five Fund,” she said in a press conference at the Capitol with Senator Bob Casey (D-Pa.), Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) and Mark Shriver, the Vice President of Save the Children on Wednesday. Jennifer Garner might not have achieved the status of having her own table at the Monocle yet, but where Hollywood is concerned, the actress this week will cement her status as one of Capitol Hill’s “regulars.”
On Wednesday, Garner will pay a visit to the legislative branch for the fourth time in a little over two years, meeting with Sens. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) and Bob Casey Jr. (D-Pa.).
As in past visits, the mother of two with husband Ben Affleck will advocate for early childhood education.
She’ll also hold the obligatory press conference, this time at 11:45 a.m. in the Capitol Visitor Center.
But if history is any indication, Garner’s trip won’t be a simple fly-by presser. By now the actress knows her way around the Capitol, and she knows how to schedule a day’s worth of brief meetings.
Don’t be surprised if she pops by the offices of Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) and Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.).
